Naylor Misses Out Thu 17th Apr 2003 14:15
Town will be without Richard Naylor when they face promoted Portsmouth on Friday evening at Portman Road (KO 5.15pm). Naylor was substituted at half-time during the Blues' 4-2 away win at Coventry City last Saturday and has not recovered sufficiently to take his place in the Town defence.

Town once again had to come from behind to claim three important points as they beat Coventry 4-2 at Highfield Road. A poor first half saw the Blues two goals behind before Pablo Couñago (2) and Marcus Bent (2) scored the goals which keep Town in the play-off hunt.

Town will feel they deserved at least a point from a rip-roaring thriller which ended 4-3 to Forest. The Blues were 2-0 up, then 3-2 down before equalising and looked the likelier side to take the three points until former loanee Marlon Harewood popped up with a 74th minute winner.

Town's play-off hopes were given a boost after they came from behind to beat Gillingham 3-1 at the Priestfield Stadium. Paul Smith put the home side in front before Tommy Miller, Pablo Couñago and Marcus Bent gave the Blues the win they deserved.

Town will rue the failure to take several first half chances and a second half missed Darren Bent penalty as Brighton took a point back to Sussex. The Blues went ahead in the first half through Marcus Bent but Brighton improved after the break and Tony Rougier scored twice before Martijn Reuser put Town back on terms.

Town manager Joe Royle has a number of injury worries ahead of Wednesday's crucial league clash with Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux. Matt Richards and Fabian Wilnis have become the latest names to be added to a lengthy injury list.

Town striker Darren Bent says he is not keen on a move away from Portman Road at this stage of his career. The 19-year-old was targeted by Newcastle United last week along with Darren Ambrose, and latterly Matt Bloomfield.

Joe Royle says that with 10 days of the transfer window remaining the Blues had received no more bids. So far Jamie Clapham and Richard Logan are the only players to have left the club during the window.

Alun Armstrong is the only surprise in the squad travelling to Turf Moor to face Burnley on Saturday afternoon. Yesterday Joe Royle said he intended to leave the striker behind to continue work with fitness coach Simon Thadani.
